Granted this is a pretty colossal issue to be brought up in a short blog, but it has really been a nagging question for me.

It seems to me that there is a double standard between the appropriate outcry for the negative placement of Jesus and Muhammad in the media. For example, Jesus is a reappearing character in comedy centrals popular show South Park in which he is often patronized and even  had his throat sliced open in an episode last year. Although South Park catches lots of flack in general for their offensive material, there was no major outcry or intervention from the comedy central channel company. In an episode in the same season, the creators of South Park (Trey Parker and Matt Stone) purposely placed Mohammed in a cartoon in which he was simply placed in the episode for a brief 20 second segment in which he did not do anything that could be considered controversial (such as box the devil, shoot a machine gun, or be made fun of for his inability to do miracles ((which the character Jesus had in other episodes)). Comedy central intervened and removed the clip containing the prophet of Islam for fear of public backlash.

My question being why not the same outcry/caution/reverence for both religious figures?
