I found the section of the last class where we discussed the kabaa to be very interesting. I thought that early devotion to it was similar to Hinduism. Where all the idols and dietys of the world are present and worship individual but at the same time part of a whole, united by a single ultimate idol. Every village or faction has their patron deity that they recognize on an individual level (known as Atman in hinduism or “self”) and the great united omnipotent force (known in Hinduism as brahman.) Just as all the idols that had one point filled the kabaa had been subordinate to the one brought by Mohammad’s ancestors.

People may be interested to know that the dietys that you can find sculptures of in some hindu places of worship include Jesus, Mohammad, and Moses all as equals in idol form amongst hundred other holy spirits.
